The results are in...

Remember that Daughter-of-Futheron and I did the Swimathon?  Well I don't for one!  I've only just today ventured back to a swimming pool for the first time since then and the pain of that last 20 lengths will be with me for a long long time!

Anyway the offiicial results are out and yours truly managed to be 2,219th overall!  Yes thank you; thank you I was 1,236th Male and 263rd in my age group.

However D-o-F was 288th overall, 95th female and 19th in her age group!  In the top 100 women over 5K in the largest swim in the UK - you have to be pleased with that...   Yes she was out, showered, changed and collected her medal before I'd finished!

My goals for next year?  Still to be under 2 hours, to complete the whole 5K and to live... not necessarily in that order :-)

  1. If I tried to swim these days, I'd probably SINK.

  5. Ah, you are truly in the swim of things. I was trained as a life guard, but hardly make it into the water any more. Except with the grandchildren. And when there is water in our apartment building's outdoor pool.

Well done D-o-F. Well done, Furtheron. You both did splendidly: daughter by getting a medal; you by surviving the activity.

  6. congratulations to you both! you did it -- and that's more than most can (or would) do!

i finished a half marathon (13.1 miles of fun) a few years back. i say "finished" rather than "ran" because i had to walk the last couple of miles. no land speed records were broken, but my goal was to do it... and i did. and am unlikely to do another. because it hurt. a lot...

  12. There's something quite nice about being at the back of the field. It reminds me of all the years I went fellrunning. ALways in the last 10%, I actually came last twice.
