London Acoustic Guitar Show

I went to said show today - lock up the credit card!!!  A good show, these days trade shows like this are on a much smaller scale than the old days but plenty of the big names there like Yamaha, Taylor and favourites like Lowden and Avalon with others like Vintage Cort etc. Other than buying some strings I was restrained. Got to try out a load of guitars. Yamaha were universally good. I liked the Tanglewood I tried but thought it a little overpriced to the Vintage models I compared it too.  I didn't dare try the redwood topped classical on Lowden's stand the £6000 price tag worrying my clumsy hands!

I tried out some classical guitars firstly Ortega which were nice but I was really impressed with Sandarac a new company to me they were good prices and a model with walnut back and sides really sounded nice.

Saw great performances from Tom Baxter and Antonio Forcioni as well as Dan Walsh's brilliant banjo playing over my lunch.

Good day out!

Here is a picture of the goodies I collected!

  1. Antonio Forcioni--eeeh, I got him on to play at the jazz club me and some friends used to run in little old Lancaster about twenty years ago.

Obviously he needed that break in a tiny little Lancashire town in order to become the trans-continental global music superstar he is now.

P.S. Graham--is there any chance you could add Name/URL to the options for "comment as"?

  2. Well done on your restraint. That couldn't have been easy. I just bought a starter Yamaha nylon string for my 7-year old. It doesn't stay in tune AT ALL!

Hummm...now that lobby mentioned it, name/url might be kind of useful.

  3. Sadly with Blogger you only get the Name/URL option if you enable Anonymous comments. Here we go again... I've re-enabled that, since I used to want to permit anyone to comment but there are some really odd people out there and if the nutter who sends me a comment about every hour a day telling me to "Shut up and start drinking again" with a variety of reasons why based upon how shit my life and blog are I'll have to disable again I'm afraid.

    1. I just saw this! Jesus, I had no idea! That's awful. By all means, if it becomes a problem again, turn it off. What a world. Equal parts cruel and kind, no?

  4. Are you serious you get those sorts of comments??!! That's awful. I've only ever had one of those a long time ago now... Anyway just wanted to say that Mr D would have loved that guitar show SO MUCH! As I sit here and catch up on sober blogs he is out in the sunshine playing some riff over and over and over again to get it right. Guitar mad. (is riff the right word? hopefully you know what I mean). Hope you are well! xxx

    1. Sadly yes. I thought I knew who it was (someone with a legitimate resentment against me despite my moving on about it) but in the end I wasn't sure just possibly some poor soul who has some issue with recovery - sad in that I'd love a proper dialogue with them but one way vicious comments get us nowhere.

  5. Lock up your credit card, indeed! I'm glad you had fun at the show and got yourself some goodies.

Sorry a troll found their way to your blog. Legitimate or not, it's hard to deal with these things in the cyber world.

    1. There were Martins and Guilds but I didn't try them out too many on those stands when I was near. Mostly I was targeting guitars less than £1000 as well which put them out of range a bit.
